Rules & Conditions — Colly Cod Classic 2025

The Promoter

The competition is organised by Collarenebri Fishing & Watersports Club Inc. (the Promoter).

The Competition

  • Catch and release of native fish — Murray cod and golden perch (yellowbelly) — is preferred and encouraged.

  • Entrants must take a clear photo of each fish on a Colly Cod Classic / Colly Fishing Club Brag Mat, with their Colly Cod Classic Fish ID tag placed on or beside the fish.

  • The full length of the fish and the ID tag must be clearly visible in the one image.

  • Tape measures or any device other than the official Brag Mat are not eligible for measurement.

  • Carp: Please bring carp to the daily weigh-in (whole fish) for responsible disposal. Tubs will be available across the weekend.

Submitting Photos (for native species)

Marshals will be available to verify photos. Alternatively, text your photos to 0488 330 389 by:

  • 5:00 pm Saturday

  • 12:00 pm Sunday
    Ensure the photo is clear with the ID tag and the entire fish length visible on the Brag Mat.

Weigh-ins & Presentation

  • Weigh-in location: Tattersalls Hotel, Collarenebri

  • Saturday 23 August 2025: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

  • Sunday 24 August 2025: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

  • Presentation: 1:00 pm Sunday 24 August 2025 at Tattersalls Hotel

  • Note: Only carp are weighed (whole fish) and will be disposed of by the Promoter.

Legal Size & Compliance

  • All fish entered must be legal size under NSW regulations.

  • Any competitor found to be fishing illegally by Fisheries or a marshal will be disqualified and entry fees forfeited.

Competition Area

All eligible fish must be caught within the Barwon River between Moonie Cottage and Calmundi Weir.

Competition Period

The Colly Cod Classic runs from 12:00 pm Friday 22 August 2025 to 12:00 pm Sunday 24 August 2025.

Prizes (Cash Pool $3,600)

  • Grant “Grantyman” Hall Memorial Longest Cod: $1,000

  • Longest Cod (Senior) – 1st Runner-Up: $250

  • Longest Cod (Senior) – 2nd Runner-Up: $100

  • Longest Cod (Junior): 1st RU $150 · 2nd RU $50

  • Longest Yellowbelly: $500

  • Longest Yellowbelly (Senior) – 1st RU: $250

  • Longest Yellowbelly (Senior) – 2nd RU: $100

  • Longest Yellowbelly (Junior): 1st RU $150 · 2nd RU $50

  • Open Mystery Carp Weights (×4): $100 each

  • Junior (U16) Mystery Carp Weights (×2): $100 each

  • Heaviest Carp (Open): $200

  • Lucky Registration Number: $200

  • Total Cash Prize Pool: $3,600

Important: Only one prize per competitor per category. If the winner is ineligible or absent, the prize passes to the next eligible entrant in line.
Presentations: 1:00 pm Sunday 24 August 2025 at Tattersalls Hotel. All prize winners must be present to receive prizes.
Raffle prizes: Winners need not be present but must collect from the pub or arrange/cover transport. Uncollected prizes held until 19 September 2025, then donated back to the Club.

Unclaimed Prizes

Any unclaimed cash prizes will be donated back to Colly Fishing Club.

Entry

  • Open to all participants.

  • Fees: $10 Adult · $5 Aged Pensioner · $5 Junior (Under 16).

  • Registration: from 12:00 pm Friday at Tattersalls Hotel; registrations close 2:00 pm Saturday 23 August.

  • Proof of registration is required to redeem prizes.

Licences

All entrants must hold a NSW Recreational Fishing Licence (or show eligibility for exemption). Licences can be obtained locally (e.g., Cochrane’s Servo) or online.

Fishing Regulations

  • Fishing may be undertaken from the bank or by boat.

  • All fishing and boating must comply with NSW fishing and boating laws and methods.

  • Illegal methods (e.g., cast/bait nets, fish traps, explosives, electrical devices) are prohibited.

  • Competitors found fishing illegally by a marshal or Fisheries will be disqualified.

Removal of Fish from the River

  • Catch and release of native fish is preferred.

  • Any take of native fish must comply with NSW Fisheries Regulations.

  • Carp are a declared pest and must not be returned to the water. Anyone returning live carp will be disqualified.

Disputes

The Collarenebri Fishing & Watersports Club’s decision is final.
Protests must be lodged in writing at the weigh-in station to a Committee member within one hour of the incident and be accompanied by a $150 protest fee (refunded if upheld).

Conditions of Entry

  • All competitors must be registered in the Colly Cod Classic.

  • Only one prize per category per person.

  • Fish caught by unregistered entrants are ineligible.

  • At weigh-in, use a separate bag per tag.

  • By entering, you accept these Conditions of Entry and information about prizes/how to enter.

  • You must comply with all applicable laws and codes (including NSW DPI fishing regulations and any required fishing/boating licences).

  • Unsportsmanlike or unlawful acts are prohibited.

  • Competitors found fishing illegally by a marshal or Fisheries will be disqualified and fees forfeited.

  • Carp are a noxious pest — do not return live carp to the water.

  • Cash prizes are awarded at the Sunday presentation (1:00 pm) at Tattersalls Hotel. Prize winners must be in attendance (raffle prizes excepted).

  • The Promoter may require winners to provide proof of registration.

  • Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable.

  • Winners may be asked to participate in publicity/photography and consent to the Promoter using their name and image for promotional activity (free of charge).

  • Entrants are responsible for ensuring they are fit and healthy to participate.

  • The Promoter may, in its sole discretion, disqualify or prohibit participation by anyone who tampers with the entry process, breaches these conditions, acts in a disruptive manner, or annoys/abuses/threatens/harasses others.

  • The Promoter is not responsible if fishing activities cannot take place due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., severe weather, flooding, river closures).

  • All entries become the property of the Promoter. Information provided by entrants may be used for running the competition, communications with entrants, and promoting Walgett Shire.

  • By entering, entrants consent to storage of their personal information on the Promoter’s database and to receiving SMS and/or email communications from the Promoter.

Waiver & Release {#waiver}

In consideration and as a condition of my entry into the Colly Cod Classic, I, my heirs and administrators agree to waive all money and any claim, right or cause of action which I or they may have against Collarenebri Fishing & Watersports Club, or its servants, agents and assigns, for or arising out of my death, injury, damage or loss of any kind (including any equipment) which I may suffer or sustain in the course of, or consequent upon, my entry or participation in the competition. I have read the “Conditions of Entry” and “Rules and Regulations”, both of which I clearly understand and agree to be bound by.
